AdBlue®: A Comprehensive Guide

Since the uprise of diesel-powered vehicles, industries from all over have adopted these types of vehicles as they have proven to be a more efficient and worthwhile option compared to petrol vehicles. Businesses are also enthusiastic about diesel engines, especially if large fleets are the main part of your business, as this product tends to reduce their toxic emissions. Thus, it facilitates them in meeting the latest euro 6 exhaust emission regulations. Another feature of diesel-powered vehicles that works alongside to reduce emissions in AdBlue®. Read on to find out what AdBlue® is and what benefits it can bring to you.

Unsure What it is?

AdBlue® is an exhaust fluid, not a fuel extract. However, what seems to shock most people is that the product is actually made out of urea and water solution. This product is stored in a container that is separate from the fuel and can smoothly be topped up using a filler cap which can be located in a number of places, including next to your fuel filler, in the boot, or under the bonnet. (Depending on your vehicle). If you’re dubious about how to top up your vehicle’s AdBlue®, then simply head over to your owner’s manual, as this should be full of valuable information regarding the product and how to find the tank. For best practice, you should top up your AdBlue® at least once between services to keep it running smoothly.

The Process

From a separate tank, minimal doses of AdBlue® will make their way into the exhaust fumes of the vehicle. Once this occurs, it creates a chemical reaction, removing the toxic nitrogen-oxide emissions (NOx) and transforming them into non-toxic water and nitrogen. The durability of AdBlue® is reliant on several factors, whether it is vehicle type or average mileage. The average rate of consumption is around a litre of AdBlue® every 600 miles. However, this differs depending on the size of your tank, i.e. you will use more with a larger tank.
